ALC assists in the transport of fat through the cell membrane and into the mitochondria within the cell, where these fats are oxidized to produce the cellular energy ATP. ALC is the acetyl ester of the amino acid L-carnitine. ALC is absorbed into the bloodstream more efficiently than L-carnitine. It passes more easily through cell membranes, and is utilized more efficiently in the mitochondria of the cell.
